Biology1 7A Cells, tissues and organ systems Flashcards
What are the 7 life processes?
1) Movement 2) Respiration 3) Sensitivity 4) Growth 5) Reproduction 6) Excretion 7) Nutrition
What is excretion?
Getting rid of waste
What is growth?
Increasing in size
What is reproduction?
A process in which organisms make more organisms like themselves.
What is an organism?
A living thing
What is respiration?
A process in which energy is released for the organism to use.
What gas is released during respiration?
Carbon dioxide
What happens to limewater in the presence of carbon dioxide?
It turns cloudy
What is sensititvity?
The ability to detect changes in an environment
What is a cell?
The basic unit of all life. All organisms are made of cells.
What is a tissue?
A group of cells doing the same job
What is an organ?
A large part of a plant or animal that does a very important job.
What is an organ transplant?
Taking an organ from one person and putting it in to another person.
What is the job of the cell membrane?
Controls what goes in and out of a cell.
What is the job of the plant cell wall?
Supports the cell.
What is a chloroplast?
Where plants make food.
What is the cytoplasm?
The place where a cells activities happen.
What is the job of the nucleus?
The “control centre” of the cell
Name one thing that is found in a plant cell but not in an animal cell.

Chloroplast OR cell wall OR vacuole
What is the role of the digestive system?
Organ system that breaks down food in to smaller molecules.
Name 3 parts of a microscope.
coarse focusing wheel, fine focusing wheel, eyepiece lens, objective lens, stage,
