Biology Y08 Spr1 Flashcards
1.1 How do gases get into and out of leaves.
Leaves have holes in the surface called stomata which allow gases to diffuse into and out of the leaf.
1.2 Write the word equation for photosynthesis.
carbon dioxide + water –> glucose + oxygen
1.3 Where does photosynthesis happen in the plant?
In the chloroplasts
1.4 Use the CROPS acronym to list the uses of glucose in plants.
Cell walls, Respiration, Oils and fats, Proteins, Storage (Starch)
1.5 List 3 things which will affect the rate of photosynthesis.
Light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration, temperature
1.6 What is the purpose of respiration?
To release energy from glucose
1.7 Write the word equation for respiration.
glucose + oxygen –> carbon dioxide + water
1.8 Write the word equation for anaerobic respiration in animal cells.
Glucose –> lactic acid
1.9 Explain why anaerobic respiration in muscle cells can be a problem.
Anaerobic respiration produces lactic acid and lactic acid causes muscle cramps
1.1 Write the word equation for anaerobic respiration in microorganisms and in plants.
glucose –> ethanol + carbon dioxide
1.11 Describe how anaerobic respiration microorganisms can be useful.
Anaerobic respiration is useful in breadmaking and in making alcoholic drinks.
