Biology Topic One - Cells Flashcards
What is the function of a cell membrane and where is it found? (Animal or Plant)
controls what substances can get in out of the cell. It is found both in animal and plant cells.
What is the function of a Cyptoplasm and where is it found?
Jelly-like substance, where chemical reactions happen. It is found is both animal and plant cells.
What is the function of a Nucleus and where is it found?
Controls what happens inside the cell. Carries genetic information. Found in both animal and plant cells.
What is the function of a Chloroplast and where is it found?
Where photosynthesis happens. Choroplast contains a green substance called Chlorophyll. Found in plant cells.
What is the function of a Vacuole and where is it found?
Contains cell sap which keeps the cell firm. Found in plant cells.
What is the function of a Cell wall and where is it found?
Made of a tough substance which cullulose which supports the cell. Found in plant cells.
List the four steps taken to prepare an onion slide to look at under the microscope. (In works, please skip until fully edited.)
ok
State three structures that are present in both plant and animal cells?
Nucleus, Cyptoplasm and Cell membrane
Name two structures that are present in plant cells but not in animal cells.
Vacuole and Cell wall.
What is the function of the nucleus?
To tell the cell what to do.
A microscope has an eyepiece of magnification x4 and a lower power objective lens of x10. What is the total magnification at low power?
x40
What is a tissue?
A tissue is made from a group of cells with a similar structure and function, which all work together to do a particular job.
Examples of Tissues
Muscle
Lining of intestine
Phloem
Root hair tissue
What is an Organ System?
An organ system is made from a group f different organs, which all work together to do a particular job.
Examples of Organ Systems
Nervous system
Immune system
Leaf canopy
Reproduction system.
