Biology Test numba wan Flashcards
What is the Nucleus
The Nucleus is the brain of the cell, it stores dna, controls all cellular activity and makes ribosomes. its spherical in structure.
What are Mitochondrion
The Mitochondrion is the powerhouse of the cell, it converts glucose to cellular energy and makes adenosine triphosphate.
Formula for mitochondrion energy
Glucose + Oxygen → Carbon Dioxide + Water + ATP
What are Ribosomes
The protein factory. Found on the rough ER and floating around the cytoplasm.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (smooth ER)
around the nucleus, looks like tubes, makes lipids, forms channels for the movement of molecules to the golgi apparatus.
Golgi Apparatus
Located near the Nucleus, has many spheres, The shipping department, This organelle is active in synthesis, sorting, and secretion.
Lysosomes
spherical shaped organelle, digestive organelle, macromolecules are hydrolyzed, not in plant cells.
Vacuoles
Bubble like structure, transparent. the central vacoule in plant cells. Storage for cells, breakdown of waste products, enlargement of the central vacuole is major mechanism of plant growth
Microtubules
Hair like structures that are connected to the centrosome, functions in cell movement; made of protein, railway of the cell.
Reaction for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide gas + water → Sun-light → oxygen gas + glucose
Prokaryotic cells; Eukaryotic cells
simpler and lacking organelles, bacteria ; Found in plants, Animals, and all other organisms, except bacteria.
