Biology term 1 assessment Flashcards
Name the features of an animal cell.
Nucleus, mitochondria, ribosome, cytoplasm, cell membrane
Name the features of a prokaryotic cell
Circular dna, cell membrane, cell wall, capsule, ribosomes, cytoplasm, plasmid dna, pili, flagellum
Name the features of a plant cell
Nucleus, mitochondria, ribosome, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplast, vacuole
What adaptations do red blood cells have?
Biconcave for maximum surface area area for diffusion.
No nucleus for maximum space for haemoglobin to carry oxygen.
Tiny so can pass through capillaries.
Nerve cell adaptations?
Extension for communication.
Lots of mitochondria.
What do ribosomes do?
Make proteins
What is the method for the microscope required practical?
- Peel the skin from the onion with tweasers.
- Lay the onion skin on the microscope slide.
- Squirt a drop of iodine solution on the slide.
- Put a cover slip on tip of the slide.
- Put the microscope slide on the stage of the microscope.
- Turn the objective lense to the 100x magnification.
- Adjust the coarse and fine focus knots until the onion cells come into focus.
