Q

In a flower, what is the stamen? What does it consist of?

A

The male parts of the flower, consisting of the anther and the filament. The anther contains the pollen grains the male sex cells.

9
Q

Describe the two forms of pollination?

A

Self-pollination: pollen is transferred from stamen to stigma on the same plant
Cross-pollination: pollen is transferred from the stamen of one plant to the stigma of a different plant

Q

Describe what happens after a flower is pollinated

A

A pollen tube grows out of the pollen grain down though the style to the ovary. The nucleus from the male sex cell joins the female sex cell inside the ole for fertilisation to occur. The ovule then develops into a seed. The ovary develops into a fruit around the seed

Q

In what different ways can seeds be dispersed (spread out)? Why is dispersal important?

A

Wind dispersal, animal dispersal, explosions from the plant, drop and roll
Dispersed seeds are important to that plants can grow without too much competition

14
Q

Why are almost all living things dependent on plants?

A

Plants capture the suns energy. Almost all energy on earth comes from the sun. Plants can use this energy to make food and then animals can eat the plants

16
Q

What does a food chain show?

A

Which animal eats another animal. The arrow show what is eaten by what.

17
Q

What does the direction of the arrow in food chain diagrams represent?

A

The direction of energy flow.

18
Q

What is a consumer?

A

All animals are consumers as they consume plants or each other

19
Q

What is a produce?

A

All plants are producers as they produce food energy using the sun.

20
Q

What is the top carnivore?

A

The animal that is not eaten by anything else
