Biology - CELL STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION 6 Flashcards
1
Q
what are the features of lymphocyte cells?
A
- Has a large nucleus, which has information for protein production
2
Q
What are the features of red blood cells?
A
- Has a biconcave shape, which gives a larger surface area to carry more oxygen
- Lots of hemoglobin which allows more oxygen to bond
- No nucleus allows it to have lots of hemoglobin
3
Q
what are the features of sperm cells?
A
- Have acrosome to break down outer layer of the egg. Acrosomes contain enzymes
- Have mitochondria which produce ATP for movement
- They are small and have a tail for movement
4
Q
What are the functions of Neutrophil? (White blood cell)
A
- Has a lobed nucleus so is flexible and can squeeze between cells in capillary walls
- Engulfs and destroys pathogens by phagocytosis
- Has many lysosomes with hydrolytic enzymes to digest the pathogens
5
Q
What are the functions of the egg cell?
A
- Large cytoplasm to provide nutrients to the growing embryo
- zona pellucida acts as protection to stop more than one sperm from entering
- Corona radiata is a protective layer which provides proteins to the cell
