Biology and microscope Flashcards
Living thing/organism
The 7 characteristics are: movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion and nutrition.
Cell
A cell is a building block of life. All living things are made up of one cell or many cells.
Cell membrane
A cell membrane is a barrier that lets substances go in the cell and let substances go out of the cell.
Nuclues
The part if the cell that contains DNA and protein. It controls the cells activities.
Cytoplasm
This is the a jelly substance inside the cell. Chemical reactions take place.
Mitochondria
This is where respiration happens when energy is released from food.
Cell wall
This is the outside layer of a plant cell. It gives structure and report.
Permanent vacuole
This is a large area in a plant cell that stores food (cell sap).
Chloroplast
Where light is trapped for photosynthesis to happen. Found in plant cells and some unicellular organisms.
Eyepiece lens
A lens on a microscope where you look through.
Objective lens
There are 3 objective lenses: low piece lens, medium piece lens and high piece lens.
Coarse focus wheel
To move the specimen closer to the objective lenses or away form the lenses.
Fine focus wheel
To adjust the microscope.
Stage
Where the substance is contained on and to be looked at.
Total magnification
The eye piece lenses are *10 this times the lenses which are
