Biology A2 Flashcards
How many Chromosomes does a normal bodily cell contain?
A normal bodily cell contains 46 Chromosomes.
How many copies of the parents Chromosomes do Gametes contain?
Gametes only contain half of the copies of the parent’s cells. When an egg is fertilized by the sperm, the Chromosomes pair up. The fertilized egg now gets the same amount of cells as the parent. This enables the egg to have a mix of the parent’s genes.
What are Gametes and what do they do?
Gametes are sperm and egg cells which contain information from the parents. The inherited information is contained in the nucleus of these cells.
Where is is the information for inherited features carried? Why are they?
The information for inherited features is carried by genes which are on things called chromosomes which are located in the sperm and egg cells.
