Q

What are the 3 main ideas of Cell Theory?

A
  1. All living organisms are made of one or more cells
  2. Cells are the basic unit of life.
  3. All cells are made from pre-existing cells

Cell Wall

A

only in plant cells
helps maintain the cell’s shape
protective barrier around the cell membrane

20

Chloroplasts

A

only in plant cells

produces food made through photosynthesis

21
Q

Diffusion

A

small dissolved substances move from a high concentration to a low concentration until the equilibrium has been reached

22
Q

Osmosis

A

water molecules move from a high concentration to a low concentration

23
Q

What are the 3 possibilities of osmosis? Explain.

A

Hypertonic: water inside cell is greater, moves out of cell. this causes cell to shrivel up causing plasmolysis.

Hypotonic: water outside cell is greater, moves into the cell, causing lysis (cell bursts)

Isotonic: water outside is equal to the water inside
