Biology 2 Flashcards
Merkel’s disk
Slow-adapting, sensing fine details
Light touch, sustained at non-hairy skin
Specialized epithelial/keratinocytes. Located in between stratum basal to papillary dermis
Apocrine gland
Develop after puberty, emotional sweating
Apex cells break off to release proteins/lipids/steroids into hair follicles
Sweat glands in the reticular dermis (armpit, groin, around nipples)
Meissner’s corpuscle
Fast-adapting, grip control (mechanoreceptor)
Only send signal when there is constantly changing stimulus, per ring light touch in non-hairy skin (sensation on putting on a t-shirt, once the shirt is on, you don’t feel it anymore unless you rub it)
Sit in papillary dermis (superficial) immediately below epidermis layer
Pacinian’s corpuscle
Fast-adapting, vibration sensation (mechanoreptor)
Push, poke, perceiving deep touch on hairy and non-hairy skin.
Require constant changing stimulus
Locate deeper: hypodermis (subcutaneous tissue)
Ruffini’s ending
Slow-adapting, stretch sensation (mechanoreceptor)
Sustained touch and sensation
Located in reticular dermis (have the most collagen)
Parietal cells
Located in stomach
Produce HCl/Gastric Acid
Stimulated by G-Cell (gastrins)
