What is chemical digestion

A

Chemical digestion is when certain enzymes are used to break down nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats into smaller molecules

A

Mechanical digestion is when you physically break down food substances into smaller parts to more efficiently carry out chemical digestion. Biting, mashing or tearing are all examples of this.

Why are enzymes specific

A

You have to have matching shapes so that the thing you are digesting can actually digest. Only something with a fitting shape to the enzyme can digested in that enzyme
