Biology Flashcards
Describe a plant cell
Rectangular, Cell wall, Darkest part = central vacuole
Describe an animal cell
Circular, cell wall, darkest part = nucleus
Describe chromatin
Loose, thread like fibres
Describe chromatids
Duplicated dna strands
Describe chromosomes
Condensed, rod shaped
What is the purpose of mitosis?
Replication and reproduction
Describe prophase
Chromosomes condense, spindle fibres form, nuclear envelope breaks down
Describe metaphase
Chromosomes like up along the equator of the cell
Describe anaphase
Sister chromatids separate and move to opposite poles
Telophase
Chromosomes lose shape, nuclear envelope reforms
G1 phase
Cell rapidly grows replicate, organelles and carries normal cell functions
G2 Phase
Cell produces organelles and structures for cell division
S phase
Sell duplicates, DNA, now in long strands chromatids, human cell now has 92 chromosomes
Epithelial
Lions, body cavities, covers outer body
Connective
Joins other tissues, stores fat, fills empty space
Muscle
Skeletal = movement
Smooth = lines organs
Cardiac = muscle of the heart
Nervous
Creating, sending, and receiving messages throughout the body
Cancer
A disease where cells grow uncontrollably, divide quickly, and spread to other parts of the body
Cancer cells
Divide uncontrollably, does not perform normal cell functions using all of their energy to divide
How cancer is diagnosed
Tests = physical exams, imaging, lab tests, biopsy
