biology Flashcards
what are the 7 parts of a human diet
- carbohydrates
- protein
- fats and oils
4.minerals - vitamins
- fiber
7.water
health problems for obese people
they could get diabetes or coronary heart disease
unbalanced diet
lack of proper nutrition caused by not having enough to eat to a point were you could go to hospital or eating to much of the wrong things such as fats and oils and carbs and not adding fruit and vegetables to your diet or even protein
health problems that malnourishment can cause
it can cause hair loss weight loss headaches and if you do not eat enough protein you can become blotted
the difference between medical drugs and recreational drugs
medical drugs treat symptoms and cure illness and recreational drugs are taken for enjoyment
what do stimulants do
they speed up nervous system for example cocaine
what do depressants do
they slow down the nervous system for example alcohol
what do hallucinogens do
alters the way you see and hear like magic mushrooms
what does analgesic do
pain killing like heroin
why drugs are dangerous
they can become a addiction
and you can overdose on them
effects of alcohol abuse
blurry vision
throwing up
liver damage
brain damage
memory loss
effect on alcohol if your pregnant
could loose your baby
the baby could get brain damage
why is smoking dangerous
lung cancer
heart attacks
breathing problems
addictive
how many people die from smoking each year
8 million
what chemicals are there in cigarettes
nicateen it makes your heart beet faster and narrows blood vessels
tar is a black sticky chemical
carcinogen clogs up your lungs
carbon monoxide toxic gas prevents red blood cells from carying oxygen
smoking in pregnancy does what
increases chance of miscarriage
your baby will be very small
if the baby survives it will still be deformed and will have a low birth weight
what do emzymes do
they brake up food
what does soluble and insoluble mean
soluble means it can dissolve and insoluble means it cant devolve
how does food digest
firstly it goes threw the mouth and the enzymes in the saliva and your teeth brakes the food down then the broken down food goes into the osophagos
and it gets pushed down by the rings of the muscles contracting then it goes in the stomach witch has loads of acids in it to brake down the food more then it goes into the small intestine and transfers it to the large intestine the the small intestine were the water is relesed and the food is also releases but this takes longer
what is a drug
something that chemically alters the way the body works
what do you need for photosynthesis
carbon dioxide
light
water
chlorophyll
whats the word equation for photosynthesis
energy
carbondioxide+water——-> glu+oxygen chlorophyll
what do leaves help make for a plant
food
what do leaves breath in and why
CO2 so the world isnt full with CO2 as that could kill humans
what do leaves breath out and why
oxygen so theres more oxygen in the world so humans can breath it in
why do leaves have veins
so it can transport water to the leaves and the leaves transport it to the plant
why are leaves thin
so they can get the maximam amount of sun light
why are there large service areas on leaves
so the chlorophyll can absorb the most amount of sun light
why are leaves green
as they have allot of chlorophyll
what will happen if a plant has a carbon dioxide deficiency
it will die as it cant to photosynthesis and basically cant breath
whats a deficiency
its when something doesn’t have enough of something
what do plants use to make chlorophyll
nitrogen and magnesium
why do plants need chlorophyll
so the plant stays green and doesn’t go yellow
why is potassium needed in plant cells
So photosynthesis speeds up and leaves don’t go yellow
what is aerobic respiration
how humans breath
whats the word equation for aerobic respiration
energy
oxygen+glucose———–>
CO2+ water chlorophyll
whats glucose
store of energyn
what does anaerobic respiration mean
without oxygen its the way we get a boost of energy
whats a top carnivore in a food chain
its the only animal that can service as it doesn’t get eaten by any other animal in the food chain
whats a producer in the food chain
its the plants
whats interdependence
its when organisms rely on each other for resources
what would happen if there was no producer
everything would be dead
whats inheritance
its the passing down of characteristics through DNA
where is DNA found
in the nucleus
what is a chromosome
is the way in witch our DNA is structured
where do 2 of your chromosomes come from
1 from your mother and 1 from the father
