Define metabolism
All the chemical processes that takes place in living organisms.
What is bonding?
The joining of molecules together.
What the two ways atoms can join?
Covalent bonding: non metals sharing electrons = full outer shell.
Ionic bonding: metal and non metal giving/ receiving electron = full outer shell. –> a negatively and positively charged atoms.
What is the name of the reaction for when a biological molecule is built?
Condensation reaction.
What does a condensation reaction release?
Water
What is the name of the reaction when we break a biological molecule.
Hydrolysis reaction
What is used in a hydrolysis reaction.
Water
What is a mole?
The SI unit of measuring the amount of a substance.
What does 1 mole contain?
The same number of particles in 12g of carbon-12.
What is a molar solution?
1 mole in a 1L solution.
How do you find the number of moles in a specific substance?
Use the relative atomic mass. (RAM)
