Biological Molecules Flashcards
What are the two types of monosaccharides?
Ketone based- ketose
Aldehyde based- aldose
And they have chiral centres- enantiomers( not able to be superimposed)
Primary Protein Structure?
Covalent bonds forming polypeptide chain- i.e order of AA residues in the polymer
Secondary Protein Structure?
Regular folded form stabilised by hydrogen bonding, e.g alpha helices, beta sheets and beta turns
Tertiary Protein Structure?
Overall 3D structure, stabilised by non-covalent bonds and forces, and sometimes by intro-chain covalent bonds.
Quaternary Protein Structure?
Organisation of polypeptides into assemblies, stabilised by non-covalent bonds and forces (as for tertiary) and sometimes by inter-chain covalent bonds.
