biological bases Flashcards
what is a neuroaxis?
a neruoaxis is a perceived line through the centre of the nervous system indicating orientation eg. dorsal/ ventral, anterior/ posterior, medial/ lateral
what are the two main nervous systems?
- Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
- Central Nervous System (CNS)
what are the sub categories of the Peripheral nervous system?
- Somatic
- Autonomic
what are the sub categories of the Central nervous system?
- Spinal Cord
- The brain.
What is the Somatic Nervous system responsible for?
it receives sensory input and delivers motor/ muscle output
how many nerves are there that join the somatic NS to the Central NS?
6!
what are the 6 areas of the Somatic NS that the nerves join the central nervous system?
Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, coccygeal
what are the 4 lobes of the cerebrum?
frontal, partietal, occipital, temporal
what are some imaging measures to measure brain activity?
- phrenology
- electroencephalograph
- computed tomography (Ct scan)
- magnetic resonance imaging
- positron emission tomography
- functional MRI
- magnetoencephalography
