Biological Approach Flashcards

1
Q

Genetics

A

Monozygotic twins - identical
Dizygotic twins - not identical

Family studies are useful due to genetics being shared and similar

Q

A

Genes are passed down through the family

Q

Brain structure

A

Damage to parts of the brain can cause serious changes to a persons ability to function normally

Structural changes could be physical such as neglect or an accident or also occur due to poor mental health and psychological damage such as depression

Clearly show physical changes

Q

Evaluation of the biological approach

A

Positives:
Use of Brain scans and other modern technology has identified many biological aspects of psychopathologies

Research into genetics has identified a genetic or inherited component in many things like phobias

Negatives:
Drug treatments are never effective for all people

The approach is reductionist which means that it believes that the biological factors are most important which takes the nature debate
