Q

Theoretical models and computer models

A

Tries to understand using the theoretical models how information is transferred
E.g the working memory model

Computer models- cognitive inputs the environment and the behaviour is the output
There is a lot going on in the mind more than you input
Just like computers processing information

Q

PET scans and FMRI scans

A

PET scans show significant differences in levels of brain activity for example a large hole of black means that there is no activity in that part of the brain and it could be a result of diseases like Alzheimer’s

FMRI scans suggest that abnormal functions and structures in the brain cause faulty thinking
Scientific, objective evidence

Q

Evaluation of the cognitive approach

A

Positives- cognitive approach takes both the nature and nurture sides into account so is interactionist

The experimental methods used are considered scientific

Much better developed account of internal processes due to computer metaphor

Negatives-over simplify explanations for complex mental processes

Low ecological validity as research that backs it is often lab based
