Biological approach Flashcards
Evolutionary influences assumption
Inherting certain genes can increase the likelihood of different behaviours occuring.
If behaviour promotes survival and reproduction it is likely to be selected and passed onto the next generation-Natural selection.
How does evolutionary influences impact the formation of relationships?
-women prefer older men with wealth as this suggests secuirty for her and her children.
-men prefer women with hourglass figures and youth as this suggest fertility
Name two research studies to do with evolutionary influences
-Buss (1989) sex differences in human mate preferences
- Dunbar and waynforth (1995) lonely hearts advertisements
How do genes impact evolutionary influences?
Inherting these genes can create a predispostion of different behaviours occuring , it does not guarentee that someone will develop that behaviour.
As the behaviours are not adaptive they are known as ‘abnormal’
