Biological Flashcards
Other than neurochemistry and genetics, what else does the biological approach argue we can use to explain behaviour
Evolution - theory of natural selection (Darwin)
Natural selection to explain behaviour
Any genetically determined behaviour that enhances survival will be passed on the future gens through reproduction
This genes are describe as adaptive and will give future gens advantages
Example of how natural selection on behaviour
Attachment behaviours in newborns promote survival and are therefore adaptive and naturally selected - closer they stay to their primary caregiver the more protected they are
Memory evolved and was adaptive for our ancestors
- they were able to retain information which helped their survival e.g where food, water was located and the routes to them (get to them quicker)
- retain info about past events which helps us plan for the future and contributes to social interaction and cooperation
