Biogernetics Flashcards
What is the equation for photosynthesis
Water + carbon dioxide—> oxygen + glucose
What is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration
Aerobic is respiration with oxygen and anaerobic is respiration without oxygen
What products are formed when anaerobic respiration happens in animals?
Lactic acid
What products are formed in anaerobic respiration in plants and yeast
Carbon dioxide and ethonal
What is anaerobic respiration in yeast called?
Fermentation
What is metabolism
The sum of all the chemical reactions in a cell or in the body
What’s the definition for oxygen dept
The amount of extra oxygen the body needs after exercise to react with the lactic acid and remove it form cells
What causes oxygen dept?
When muscles aren’t supplied with enough oxygen so anaerobic respiration takes place
What does the body do to increase the supply of oxygen and glucose
Increase: breath volume, heart rate, breath rate
When oxygen dept takes place it causes what to build up? Why is this bad for muscles?
Lactic acid, causes the muscles to hurt and stops them from contracting efficiently
What are reactions controlled by?
Enzymes
The energy transferred by respiration is used to make new molecules. Give examples:
Glucose to starch
Glycogen to cellulose
