Define bioethics
Bioethics is the study of ethical issues emerging from new situations and possibilities brought about by advances in biology and medicine.
What is beneficence
An act of charity mercy and kindness with a strong connotation of doing good to others including moral obligation.
Define nonmaleficence
The obligation of a physician to not harm the planet.
Define infertility
When a couple cannot conceive a child.
Why could someone be infertile
Man has unhealthy sperm
Women cannot produce eggs
What is IVF
Invirto fertilisation, a treatment for women who cannot become pregnant naturally. The egg is fertilised outside the body. The resulting embryo is put back into womb to develop into a baby
What are religious views on IVF?
Many Christian’s would argue that IVF could be seen as playing god
What is surrogacy?
An embryo is placed in the uterus of surrogate mothers to develop and grow instead of biological mother.
When is surrogacy legal
Surrogacy is only legal when a surrogate is doing it for altruistic reasons and not monetary gain.
Religious views on surrogacy
Some Christian’s could see it as loving thy neighbour but the Roman Catholic Church says surrogacy is gravely immoral.
What does hfea stand for and what do they do?
Human fertilisation and embryology authority. HFEA oversees the use of gametes and embryo infertility treatment and research.

What is meant by the term viability
A foetus can survive outside of the womb
