17
Q

State the equation of cellular respiration

A

glucose (C_6 H_12 O_6) + 6 oxygen > ^ Carbon Dioxide + 6 Water + 30-38 ATP

18
Q

What types of cells use celular respiration?

A

All Eukaryotes

19
Q

Is Glycolysis Aerobic?

A

No

20
Q

Is The Kreb’s Cycle Aerobic?

A

Yes

21
Q

Is the Electron Transport Chain Aerobic?

A

Yes

22
Q

What are the 3 steps of Cellular Resperation

A

Glycolysis, Krebs Cycle, Electron Transport Chain

23
Q

What takes place in Glycolysis

A

2 ATP are used to split a glucose into 2 Pruvate, producing 4 ATP for a net gain of 2 ATP, also produces 4 NADH out of NAD+

24
Q

What is the mini step between Glycolysis and the Krebs Cycle

A

Pyruvate is made into Acetyl CoA, losing a carbon atom and producing another NADH

25
Q

What takes place in the krebs cycle?

A

Takes in Acetyl CoA, releases carbon dioxide. Produces 8 NADH, 2 FADH_2, and 2 ATP

26
Q

What takes place in the Electron Transport Chain?

A

Electrons carried by NADH and FADH_2 go into the membrane of the mitochondrion where they are transported through. Hydrogen is passively transported into the cell. This transport powers a enzyme called ATP synthase which produces around 32 ATP. The spare electrons bind with oxygen and remaining hydrogen to make water.

27
Q

What are the 2 types of Fermentation

A

Lactic Acid Fermentation and Alcoholic Fermentation

28
Q

What is lactic acid fermentation?

A

When pyruvate has no oxygen in animal cells, it turns into Lactate. Build up of Lactate causes cramps.

29
Q

What is Alcoholic Fermentation?

A

When pyruvate is produced but no oxygen is present in plants, Ethyl Alcohol and carbon dioxide is produced. The carbon dioxide released by yeast causes bread to rise
