Biodiversity Flashcards
Name the seven life processes.
Move, cellular respiration, sensitive to the environment, grow, reproduce so they don’t go extinct, excrete waste and need nutrition.
What is cellular respiration?
Cellular respiration is when organisms release energy from their food.
What are 5 requirements for life?
Energy, gases, water, soil, and favourable temperatures.
What gas do living organisms need for cellular respiration?
Oxygen.
What waste products do animals produce during cellular respiration?
Water and carbon dioxide.
What gas do green plants need to photosynthesise?
Carbon dioxide.
What does soil provide for plants?
Support, minerals and water.
Can organisms live on Earth without the atmosphere?
No, gasses are one of the requirements for life and if there is no atmosphere there is no gas.
What is an adaptation?
- Anything that helps an organisms survive in its environment is an adaptation.
- The ability of living things to adjust to different conditions within their environments.
Name 6 types of adaptations.
- Structural adaptation
- Protective colouration
- Mimicry
- Behaviour adaptations
- Migration
- Hibernation
Name 7 adaptation of a camel.
- Can close its nostrils
- White coloured skin
- Flat hooves
- Long eyelashes
- Humps store fat
- Two toes give grip
- Thick fur
