Biodiversity Flashcards
A process of adjusting according to environment and situation
Adaptation
Includes plants, algae and some bacteria that use photosynthesis to make their own food
Autotrophs/Producers
Get energy by eating other organisms
Heterotrophs/Consumer
break down dead or decaying consumers and producers
Decomposer
A term that describes how varied living things are in a specific area
Biodiversity
Total number of different species interacting together
Species Richness
Total number of individuals in each kind of species
Species abundance
Different species within a region or community
Species Diversity
Variation of genes within species
Genetic Diversity
Different biomes
Ecosystem Diversity
Species are sources of the basic needs of human such as food, clothing, shelter, medicine and energy
Direct Economic Value
benefits produced by the organism without using them
Indirect Economic Value
Lot of species provides visual or artistic enjoyment.
Aesthetic Value
The resilience to withstand changes that may occur in the environment
Stability
Capability of an ecosystem to remain constant despite changes in environment, number of species, population sizes, and interaction
Ecosystem Stability
Ecosystem keeps its structure and continues normal functions even when environmental conditions change
Resistance
Following disturbance, ecosystem regains normal structure and function
Resilience
Group of organisms of the same species that live in a certain area.
Population
The number of births in a population.
Birth Rate (Natality)
The number of organisms that are dying in a population.
Death Rate (Mortality)
Maximum number of organisms that an environment can support
Carrying Capacity
When resources are unlimited and resulting in a J- shaped curve
Exponential growth
When resources are limited and S shaped curve
Logistics Growth
