Bio quiz Flashcards
Give one reason why bacteria are important to humans.
Bacteria plays a crucial role in digestion. Beneficial bacteria helps break down food, absorb nutrients, support immune system.
Are viruses found in one of the domains? Explain your answer.
No, because viruses aren’t considered alive because they can’t perform basic life processes like reproduction or metabolism on their own.
Why are organisms in the protista kingdom so difficult to classify?
-lack of shared charecteristics
-resemblance to animals, plant, or fungi in different ways
-don’t all share a common ancestor
-some have complex life cycles involving multiple forms and hosts
Which group will typically have a greater variety of species? Phylum or Genus. Explain.
Phylum because it is a bigger category than a genus and includes many more groups, so it has a wider variety of species.
Which two domains are made up of the former kingdom called “Monera” after the group was found to have bacteria like organisms that were very difference from one another?
Bacteria and Archaea
Who was responsible for creating the system of classification called binomial nomenclature? Why do you think he created the system of classification known as bionic nomenclature?
Carl Linnaeus, to provide a consistent way to name organisms, making it easier for scientists to classify and communicate globally.
Why do you think bacteria are considered to be the dominant form of life on Earth?
Widespread presence, diverse, and survive almost everywhere where many other organisms cannot.
Where do fungi obtain energy resources from?
Heterotrophic nutrition
Prions are infectious proteins that are extremely difficult to breakdown. Give an example of where they made the news?
An example of a prion caused disease is mad cow disease, prion diseases are progressive and fatal in animals and humans. One example of a prion diseases that made the news would be mad cow disease. this made the news because if humans had contact with this animal it could possibly lead to a neurodegenerative disorder in humans.
What type of fungi help plants by increasing the surface area of the root system?
Give an example of how understanding of this fungi can help you when you are digging up a small tree and transplanting it to another location?
mycorhizzal fungi, if u damage the fungi network while transporting the plant it will have more trouble absorbing nutrients and growing in its new location. If u dig around it and protect it it will grow better in its new environment.
