Bio Quiz 1 Flashcards
What are the monomers of lactose?
Glucouse and Galactose.
What is Endocytosis?
When cells take large molecules in vesicles that bud inward.
What happens when lysosomes burst in the cell?
When it bursts, lysosome will digest cellular substances.
What is active transport?
The movement of molecules across a membrane that requires energy.
Compare between saturated fats and unsaturated fats.
*Saturated fats: Has the maximum number of hydrogens. Solid at room temprature.
*Unsaturated fats: Has fewer than the maximum number of hydrogens at the double bond.
Liquid at room temprature.
What is the function of golgi apparatus?
Receives products form the ER through transport vesicles, refines it, stores and then distribute it to the other organelles or the plasma membrane.
What is the difference between DNA and RNA?
DNA sugar is deoxyribose. RNA sugar is ribose.
DNA has the base thymine(T). RNA has the base uracil(U).
DNA exists as double helix. RNA is single-stranded.
What is common between prokaryotic cell and eukaryotic cell?
They both have:
*Cytosol
*Plasma membrane
*Chromosomes
*Ribosomes
What is the function of ribosomes?
Responsible for protein synthesis.
What is the function of nucleus?
Control center of the cell and contains the DNA that stores information and produce protein.
What is the cell theory?
All living things are composed of cells and that all cells come from earlier cells.
What is hydrolysis?
Breaks bonds between monomers and adds a molecule of water.
What is the complimentary strand of DNA that has AGTCCGC?
TCAGGCG.
List 2 differnces between eukaryotic cell and prokaryotic cell.
Eukaryotic cells have organelles.
Eukaryotes have nucleus that contain dna while prokaryotes have no nucleus and the dna is in a Nucleoid
What is exocytosis?
The movement of large molecules using vesicles out of the cytoplasm through plasma membrane.
