Bio Genetics 3 Mitosis Flashcards
What are the stages of Mitosis?
Interphase
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophases
What is Mitosis?
type of cell division when one cell (parent cell) duplicates itself -> two identical (daughter cells)
What’s the importance of Mitosis?
its important for growth and repair, as it creates new cells
What happens during interphase?
cell prepares to divide, cell replicates DNA to form 46 chromatids
What is prophase?
chromosomes condensing + thickening (nucleus still there)
What is metaphase?
chromosomes line up in the middle (nucleus is disassembled)
What is anaphase?
sister chromatids are moving to opposite ends of the cell by spindles attached to centriole
What is a spindle fibre?
spindles are attached to centrioles that help move chromatids to the ends of the cell
What is telophase?
chromosomes are at opposite cell ends starting to form a new nucleus
