Bio class 3 Flashcards
What does semiconservative replication mean?
After DNA replication one strand of DNA double helix is composed of all DNA and the other is composed of newly synthesize DNA
What are the differences of DNA and RNA
DNA= Double stranded
Bases= AG, CT
Sugar deoxyribose
RNA=single stranded
bases= AG, CU
Sugar ribose
mRNA=Translated to make protein
rRNA= needed to make functional ribosome
tRNA= carries an AA to a ribosome to be incorperated into a growing protein
For glycolysis: What happens to the carbon chain? Where does ATP enter/exit? What are the end products? How are they prepared for Krebs Cycle?
six carbons (glucose), phosphorylated twice, split into three carbons and dephosphorylated (pyruvate).
ATP entries twice to phosphorylate glucose. ATP exists when phosphorylated carbon chain is split.
Products= 2 ATP, 2 NADH, 2Pyruvate
Pyruvate must be decarboxylated
