Bio. Flashcards
Allele
Version of a gene (D/R) Humans have 2 genes for each trait (1 on each homologous chromosome)
Gene
A section of DNA that contains instructions for making 1 trait
Genotype
The types of the genes of an organism (in their DNA)
Phenotype
Observable characteristics of an organism (you can see the trait)
Heterozygous
2 different alleles of a particular gene (Aa)
Hybrid=>different
Homozygous
2 identical alleles of a particular gene (AA)
Pure bread =>identical
Recessive
Gene that’s only expressed in homozygous condition (aa)
Dominant
Gene that’s expressed in homozygous or heterozygous condition (AA or Aa)
Gamete
Haploid sex cells created for sexual reproduction
Somatic
Cells contain DNA arranged in chromosomes
