What is Binge Eating?
recurrent binges one time per week for at least three months, lack of controll during bingeing, and distress about binging. Also eating alone and rapid eating
Difference between binge eating and anorexia or bulimia?
These clients do not lose weight or purge after bingeing
Physical consequences
obesity, risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, breathing problems, insomina, joint and muscle pain, anxiety and depression, early onset of menestration
Prognosis
25 to 82%; usually lasts 14.4 years (more than anorexia and bulimia)
Causes
Genetic factors: negative emotionally and restraint in families; family dynamic; Anorexia: over controlling and Bulimia: disorganized, chaotic
Cognitive Factors
Anorexia: societal pull for thinness, mastery of self-control, disturbed body image, criticism from peers and parents about being overweight.
