Binder Jetting Flashcards
1
Q
What is Binder Jetting?
A
Similar to powder bed but BJ selectively deposits a binder material which bonds powder rather than melting by laser. Sim to jetting but uses inkjet heads to deposit only part of final mat.
- DoD
- Thermal & Pizoelectric
2
Q
Materials?
A
- One powder option composed of starch and cellulose
- Second powder option based on plaster
- Process can do metal and ceramics also
3
Q
Post Processing?
A
De-powder the part and dry it
Infiltration with liquid secondary materials for mechanical integrity
4
Q
Strengths
A
Simple low cost system Cheap materials Binder soloution typically water based Colour printers available Fast process due to jetting Very little waste material
5
Q
Limitations
A
Limited functional parts Limited strength Poor surface finish Poor resolution Multiple secondary processes
6
Q
What is infiltration
A
Infiltration is the process of
applying a liquid resin to a
printed part to provide strength
and impart specific properties
