Binary Fission Flashcards
1
Q
What is binary fission ?
A
- Where the cell splits into two pices
2
Q
What is the set order of mitosis ?
A
- DNA Replicates
- Chromosomes line up along the equator/centre of the cell
- The chromosomes spilt equally and go to opposite POLES of the cell
- The cell splits at the cytoplasm and cell membrane
- 2 identical daughter cells have been produced
3
Q
How do prokaryotic cells replicate ?
A
Through binary fission (Similar to mitosis)
4
Q
Binary fission steps
A
- The circular DNA and Plasmid(s) replicate
- The cell grows in size and ONLY the DNA moves to opposite poles of the cell
- The cytoplasm decides and new cell was begin to form
- The cytoplasm decides and two identical daughter cells are produced. (Each daughter cell has one copy of the circular DNA but can have variable amounts of plasmid(s)
5
Q
What is the mean devision time ?
A
- The average amount of time it takes for one bacterial cell to decide into two.
- (If you know the mean devision time you can work out HOW MANY times it has decided in a SET GIVEN TIME)
