what happens in binary fission
A
the cell splits in 2. this is how prokaryotic cells replicate

stages of binary fission
A
- circular DNA and plasmids replicate
- cell gets bigger and the circular DNA
strands move to opposite poles - cytoplasm begins to divide, new cell walls
form - cytoplasm divides and 2 daughter cells are
produced. each daughter cell has 1 copy of
the circular DNA, but can have a variable
number of copies of plasmids

how quickly can bacteria divide
A
very quickly if its a warm environment and theres lots of nutrients

A
cells will stop dividing and eventually begin to die
