Who comes up with ideas for bills?

What does it take to bring the congresses attention to an issue that can be resolved with a law?
Lots of people.

What does a Congress person do when they think they should make a law?
They propose it to all of Congress in the form of a bill.
Where does the bill go to get voted on?
Either the Senate or the House of Reps.
What happens when there isn’t a majority backing up the law?
The bill dies.
What happens if there is a simple majority agreeing with the bill?
It goes to the next house of Congress.
What happens when both the House and Senate agree that the bill should be passed?
It goes to the senate for the president to sign.
What does it mean when the president signs the bill?
It turns into a law.
Where does a bill go if the president doesn’t sign it?
It goes back to Congress to be voted on again.
What is it called when the president doesn’t sign a bill?
A veto.
How many congress people need to agree on the bill to overturn a veto?
2/3 of Congress have to support a bill to overturn a veto.
