What does the 1st amendment do? (5 things)
Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, & Petition
What does the 4th amendment do? (1 thing)
Unreasonable search and seizure. It requires the government to have a warrant issued by a judge based on probable cause.
What does the 5th amendment do? (5 things)
It establishes eminent domain, protects against double jeopardy, ensures a fair jury trial, gives people the right to choose not to testify in court if they feel it will incriminate them, and ensures that the government has to go through due process of law before stripping someone of life, liberty, or property.
What does the 6th amendment do? (6 things)
The right to a speedy & public trial
the right to an impartial Jury
The right to know what you’re being accused of
the right to confront witnesses brought by the government.
the right to compel testimony from the witnesses
the right to a government-provided lawyer
What does the 7th amendment do? (1 thing)
It makes sure Civil trials/cases also get an impartial jury and fair ruling
What does the 8th amendment do? (3 things)
Excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments.
What does the 9th amendment do?
It states that people still have all the rights that are not listed.
What does the 10th amendment do?
It gives all powers not specifically given to the government in the Constitution, to either the states or to the people.
What 3 documents were the Bill of rights based on?
the Magna Carta, the Virginia Declaration of Rights, and the English Bill of Rights.
What is Double Jeopardy?
When someone is tried for the same crime twice
What are the enumerated powers?
All powers listed in the constitution
What does “Due Process” mean?
Due process (mentioned in the 5th amendment) refers to the procedures the government must follow before depriving someone of their life, liberty, or property.

What is Eminent Domain?
Private property can not be seized for public use without a fair amount of money in return.
