Bilateria And Platyhlminthes - Flatworms Flashcards
Describe atleast 5 points of what makes a bilaterial organism
- Most animals are in the clade bilateria
- The are mostly locomotory animals
- Have bilateral symmetry
- Have cephalisation (most the sense organisms in the head)
- Are tripoblastic
- Have true organs and are coelomates
What is a Platyhelminthes?
Its a FLATWORM!!!!!
Think platy flatly
Describe some features of Platyhelminthes - think habitat, germ layers, their cavities, lineages
- They live in marine environments
- They undergo tripoblastic development in blastula
- Are acoelomates (no body cavity)
- No circulatory system - they are internal parasites so use their hosts
- Two lineages - catenulid and rhhabditphora
What is special about the Platyhelminthes’s skeleton? How does it maintain its shape?
Its a hydro skeleton, that maintains its shape because of the fluid from the mesoderm
How does gas exchange occur in the Platyhelminthes? How does this help with locomotion
The ciliated hairs on the epidermis allow diffusion to occur.
Helps them glide through water
Which is true about the Platyhelminthes reproductive system:
A: asexual budding
B: sexual reproductive with the sperm and ovum
C: monoecious - both male and female reproductive organs
D: Sexual reproduction through sperm released in waterways
C!!!!
They are monoecious
Tell me four classes of Platyhelminthes…..
