Bilateria Flashcards
What is the coronal plane?
Dorsal (back) to Ventral (front)
What is genetic collinearity?
The order of HOX genes is constant and conserved
What is Spatial collinearity?
The order of gene expression in the transverse plane matches the gene order in the complex
What is Temporal Collinearity?
The order in which each gene is expressed in time corresponds to its position on the the complex
What is conserved best, HOX paralogous or orthalogous?
Orthalogous
What maternally transcribed mRNA is concentrated at the anterior?
Bicoid
What maternally transcribed mRNA is concentrated at the posterior?
nanos
What is the purpose of creating the bicoid nanos gradient?
Regulates the expression of gap genes
What is the purpose of gap genes?
Regulate expression of pair rule genes
What is the purpose of pair rule genes?
Used by HOX genes to activate and repress certain genes and certain segments to promote the development of tissues and structures
What is the extra layer that replaces mesohyl in bilaterians?
mesoderm
Explain the formation of a blastopore
The 3 layers form a hollow ball called a Blastula. The early gut then forms in gastulation. Cells invaginate at one pole to form an open gut.
What happens to the blastopore in Protostomes?
Hole becomes mouth
What is the group called when the blastopore becomes an Anus?
Deuterostomes
