- Glucophage, Glucophage XR, Fortamet,
Glumetza*, Riomet - IR: 500 mg daily* or BID
- Titrate weekly, usual maintenance dose: 1,000 mg BID
- Max: 2,000-2550 mg/day
- give with a meal to decrease GI upset
- BBW: lactic acidosis
- CI: eGFR < 30, metabolic acidosis (including DKA)
- Vitamin B12 deficiency
- symptoms include peripheral
neuropathy, cognitive impairment, - SE: transient GI effects
- Decreases A1C by 1-2%
- Effect on weight: none
- Any hypoglycemia: no
-D/D/I: Iodine contrast dye, alcohol, topiramate
