Ketogenic Diet

A

The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that in medicine is used primarily to treat difficult-to-control (refractory) epilepsy in children. The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates

Q

Autoimmune Disease

A

The immune system is seeing a normal human enzyme and thinking, essentially that it is a foreign invader, and attacking one of our body’s own endemic enzymes. This causes a whole bunch of wear and tear in the body at the site of attack, wherever the scene of the battle may be between the immune system and our body parts which can have an affect on the body in term of dysfunction, but also just the inflammation and oxidative damage at the site of invasion.

The immunize system has been in activation so often in response to something being weakened, usually by nutrient deficiency, so that it acts like a wounded dog where it is scared and not good at separating friend from foe.

Autoimmune disease = Hashimoto, thyroiditis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis

Q

Inflammation

A

Cells secrete chemicals (cytokines) which communicate the need to calm the body (anti-inflammatory) or alarm the body (inflammatory) There is no gray area everything you eat, drink, breath, do, think and experience can cause one reaction or the other

Examples of inflammation: swollen joints, achy muscles, congestion, headaches, diarrhea, constipation, GERD, depression, lethargy, ongoing fatigue, skin rashes, itchiness, bloating, poor memory, irritability, brain fog …

Can be deadly:
Diabetes,

Inflammation is a loss of tolerance on behalf of the immune system

Q

Hyphochlorhydria

A

Low stomach acid

50% of people over 65 have low stomach acid due to aging
80% of people over 80 have low stomach acid

If you don’t have enough stomach acid you can’t denature the proteins. Proteins are like a ball of yarn. Lots of amino acid chains. Stomach acid denatures that protein or unwinds it so that the digestive enzymes can get in there like a pair of scissors and actually cut the yarn into usuable little

17
Q

Methylation

A

Is a biochemical process which happens billions of times per second through by the body. It is respondible for a large number of functions. Methylation is required to make epigenetic tags that control gene expression and this makes it one of the most important biochemical process in the body. You have to methylate to make neurotransmitters, detoxify many substances. It is a chemical cycle that oscillates between methionine and homocysteine

Someone who doesn’t methylate well may not even know it. They may not be taking in the right nutrients, or if they are taking them maybe their digestion is broken.

Methyl groups come from nutrients -food. Body must have B12, folate, B9

If we don’t generate enough methyl groups then it won’t protect DNA and you’re more vulnerable to a whole bunch of diseases. If you don’t methylate well then you can’t detoxify a whole bunch of things especially heavy metals Z

18
Q

MTHFR

A

Genetic variant called MTHFR which impairs the bodies ability to make use of folate in order to have good methylation

19
Q

Zonulin

A

Zonulin is a protein that modulates the permeability of tight junctions between cells of the wall of the digestive tract.

20
Q

Nutrient insufficiency

A

A person may test clinically deficient, meaning in the lowest fifth percentile of the population

(Insufficient meaning that there are missed opportunities where biochemical process is not working as optimally as they can)

21
Q

Vitamin

A

An organic compound that the body has to have in order to function but in small amounts that the body cannot produce on its own

There are 13 human vitamins. Some are fat soluble (Vitamin A, D, E and K). Vitamin C and the eight B Vitamins are water soluble

Fat soluble vitamins are stored so overdose is possible

Water soluble vitamins require more frequent ingestion but are easily excreted when in access

22
Q

Histidine

A

Histidine is an amino acid. Amino acids are building blocks of protein in our bodies. People use histidine as medicine. Histidine is used for rheumatoid arthritis, allergic diseases, ulcers, and anemia caused by kidney failure or kidney dialysis (google)
