Explain how tectonic plates move - core, mantle, magma, friction, cycle, convection currents, moving plates.
The core heats the magma in the mantle. The hot magma rises, coming in contact with the plates. This creates friction which moves the plates. The magma gets cooler as it is farthest from the core. It sinks back to the core where the cycle is repeated. This cycle is called convection currents which causes moving plates. E.g. the Eurasia and North American plates are moving away from each other due to convection currents.

Marble is formed when limestone goes through changes due to intense heat and
pressure. The change from heat, is called thermal metamorphism. Heat from magma
reaches temperatures up to 2000°C changing them to make-up of the rock it comes in
contact with. Pure marble is white, while coloured varieties result from impurities. Green marble is found in Connemara, Co. Galway. Marble is commonly used as a decorative stone in kitchen countertops and bathroom tiles.

Limestone forms when layers of dead plants and animals build up on the ocean floor, meaning it is organic. Over millions of years, the lower layers become compressed from weight of the layers above. This pressure compacted the layers, and minerals acted as cement to cement the layers to gether. Fossils can be found in Limestone. The Burren in Co Clare is a limestone region.
