Biblical Creation Flashcards
How does an old earth belief erode Biblical authority?
A view of millions of years doesn’t harmonize with Scripture. This puts man’s fallible ideas in authority over God’s word.
Biblical authority is destroyed. If Genesis is incorrect, why believe rest of the Bible?
Christian morality is eroded. Once scriptural authority is eroded, what keeps from doing that in other areas? Subsequent generations then push it farther.
End result? Once you lose the authority of scripture, then you lose trust in the book. Once lose trust in the book, then why believe the gospel. It then becomes a salvation issue.
What four fossil evidences contradict an old earth creation theory?
Thorns - found in fossils before man, but not created until sin
Disease - found in fossils before man. When God finished creating man, he said everything be created was ‘very good’. If disease was part of that, then disease was ‘very good’?
Diet - before sin, everyone was vegetarians. Yet we find fossils eating each other, supposibly before man and sin?
Death - If millions of years, then there was death before sin. The Bible tells us death came after sin.
What verse tells us that death came due to sin?
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Beyond Genesis 1, what other verse specifies a 7-day creation?
Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
What evidence do creationists have that is different from evolutionists?
None! All have the same evidence. The difference is your starting point and thereby how we interpret it in the past.
What’s wrong with the Intelligent Design movement?
It could reference any God or creative force, not necessarily Jesus Christ, which could drive people toward another religion, not necessarily Christianity.
What is the main reason people do not believe in literal 24-hour days in Genesis 1?
They place “science” in authority over the Bible by believing: dating methods, geologic column, starlight
What is the “Day Age” theory?
The claim that the days of Genesis 1 are really long periods of time, which correspond to the major periods of evolutionary geological history.
Appeals to 2 Peter 3:8: “One day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.”
Also, it is claimed that too much activity took place on the sixth day to fit into a normal day: Adam’s naming of thousands of animals, his perception of his loneliness, and the subsequent creation of Eve.
Why can’t Scripture be harmonized with the Day Age Theory?
Order of events - the order of creation events does’t match the order of evolutionary events.
Death before sin - The Day Age theory would place death before sin.
What is Theistic Evolution?
An attempt to harmonize the biblical account with the evolutionary scenario. God directed the evolutionary process or just set it up and let it run.
Describe the “Gap Theory”
According to the gap theory, there’s a very long gap of time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. The world that existed during this gap was destroyed and God re-created in the six days described in Genesis.
Specifics vary, but gap theorists tend to believe:
- God made the world, and then something happened that caused it to “become” without form and void.
- The gap could be of very long duration—even millions of years.
- During this gap, so-called “prehistoric” creatures lived and died. Gap theorists believe that Lucifer was in charge of this “gap” world, but when he fell from grace (Isaiah 14; Ezekiel 28) God destroyed the gap world in a “Luciferian Flood.” After this, God “remade” the world in six literal 24-hour days, as outlined in Genesis 1.
What’s the formula for evolution
- Mutations
- Natural selection
- Millions of years
What is natural selection? (Biblical definition)
God ordained process allowing organisms to survive in a post-fall world. Allows variations within a ‘kind’ and preserves by ability within the ‘kind’.
Describe how the ‘evolution tree’ differs from the ‘creation tree’…
Evolution is one tree from which all species branch. Creation tree is a forest: one tree for each kind with variation within each kind.
What is a great biblical proof that Adam was a real person, not an allegory, fable, or a myth?
Inclusion in genealogies, and statement of his age later in the Bible.
List two assumptions made with dating methods
- Constant rate of decay
- Known starting points for daughter elements
What happened on the first day of creation?
God said, “Let there be light.” He saw that the light was good. He called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”
What happened to the waters under the sky on the third day?
They were gathered in one place (seas).
What did the land produce on the third day?
Seed-bearing plants and trees
What did God create on the fourth day?
Greater and lesser lights, and stars
On what day did God place two lights in the sky and make the stars?
The fourth day
What two things did God create on the fifth day?
Great creatures of the sea and birds
