Bible Verses Flashcards
1Peter 3:15-16
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord, as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason (logos) for the hope that is in you;
Yet do it with gentleness, and respect, having a good conscience, so that when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
John 1:2-3
He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
This relates to our discussion on Biblical cosmogony.
Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created (bara) the heavens and the earth.
Exodus 34:10a
“And he said, ‘Behold, I am making (bara) a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been created in all the earth or in any nation.”
Ephesians 4:24
Paul talks about 2 Godly characteristics, righteousness and holiness in the context of renewing us in the image in which we were created.
“And put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Genesis 9:6
“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God created man in his own image.”
• this verse supports the image of God in man post-fall.
1 Corinthians 15:49
“Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.”
This parallels the first and second Adams on our sanctification as we become Christlike.
Matthew 12:8
“For the Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
This verse supports the “redemptive ordinance” of the Sabbath.
• a time when we remember God’s redeeming grace.
Psalm 139:7
““Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?”
Psalm 139:7 ESV
The entirety of this psalm echoes that we are relational with God. (An essential Monist view)
• I think it also reflects our dependence on God.
Apart from God humans are nothing.
Deuteronomy 6:5
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Heart, soul, might
Genesis 2:7
“Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”
Matthew 10:28
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
• this is one of the clearest dichotomist examples as Jesus appears to clearly describe the entirety of man made up of body and soul.
