better gaseous exchange Flashcards
define gaseous exchange
where oxygen from the alveoli goes into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide come out and into the alveoli
define alveoli
tiny air sacs in the lungs
explain step 1
oxygen that is breathed in reaches the alveoli
explain step 2
the oxygen passes through the diffusion pathway into the red blood cells in the capillaries
explain step 3
oxygen- haemoglobin-oxihaeogloben
explain step 4
carbon dioxide goes into the alveoli and is breathed out
explain step 5
at same time haeoglogen carries co2 the waste product into the capilaries in the lungs
explain step 6
oxihaemoloben is carries all around the body
how does the body help gaseous exchange occur efficiently
large surface area, very thin walls, moist lining, good blood supply
how does a large surface area help gaseous exchange
amount a shape of alveoli causes large area for process to occur
how does this walls help gaseous exchange
alveoli has very thin walls which creates a short diffusion pathway
how does moist lining help gaseous exchange
alveoli sacs are moist inside allowing gases to diffuse easily
how does good blood supply help gaseous exchange
alveoli are surrounded by thousands of blood capillaries which create lots of space for gaseous exchange to occur
