What should a manufacturer do before building a factory?
Before building a factory, a manufacturer should try to work out the best site for its location.
What would a perfect site be unavailable?
If there was a perfect site, someone would probably already be using it.
What are the things that help decide the best available site for a factory?
Raw materials, power, labour, markets, transport, and site.
Describe raw materials.
Raw materials are natural resources from which goods are made, and they cost money and take time to move so a factory should be as close as possible to them.
Describe power.
Power is needed to work the machines, usually using electricity.
Describe labour.
Labour is people who work in the factories, and although now machines do most of their work now, the small labour force should be trained and skilled.
Describe markets.
Markets are places where manufactured goods are sold, and the best place for any factory is near to a large urban market.
Describe transport.
Transport is needed to bring raw materials and workers to the factory and send manufactured goods to the market.
Describe site.
Site is where the factory is built.
