Benzene Flashcards
1
Q
Aromatic hydrocarbons and its types
A
Aromatic hydrocarbons possess a pleasant order aromatic hydrocarbons are of two types benzenoid and non benzenoid
2
Q
Structure of benzene
A
- Benzene is found way a stable molecule for stuff it is it forms a triozoide. Indicates the presence of three double bonds
- each carbon atom undergoes sp2 hybridisation, the sp2 hybrid orbit also overlap with each other to form 6C single bond sigma bond.
- The S orbitals of hydrogen overlap with the SP2 hybrid orbitals of carbon to form CH sigma bond.
- at each carbon atom, there is an unhybridised P orbital which all absolutely deform 3 pi bond.
3
Q
Necessary condition for a molecule to be aromatic
A
- the molecule should be cyclic.
- It should be planar.
- Complete delocalization of Pi Electron in the ring.
- Presence of (4N +2) pi electron in the ring where N is an integer this rule is known as Huckel’s rule.
4
Q
Physical properties of benzene
A
- Aromatic hydrocarbons are immiscible with water but readily miserable with organic solvents. One with a sooty frame
5
Q
chem properties of arenes
A
arenes generally undergoes electrophilic substitution reaction
6
Q
carcinogenity
A
Benzene and polynuclear hydrocarbons
containing more than two benzene rings
fused together are toxic and said to
possess cancer producing (carcinogenic)
property
