What are the two types of nevi, and which one has malignant potential?
Congenital & dysplastic
Dysplastic = malignant potential
What is a Leser-Trelat sign, and what is it indicative of?
-a sudden increase in Seborrheic keratosis numbers → suggestive of internal malignancy
A new nevus at the age of 50 should raise suspicion of what?
melanoma (nevi typically appear in the first 3 decades of life)
What is the treatment for SK?
-Curette, cryotherapy, or electrodessication
What is the name for tiny SKs, arising in darker skin types, usually on the cheeks and temples which cannot be frozen off (due to scarring)?
Dermatosis papulosa nigra
What is the name for small white-gray SKs appearing on dorsal feet and ankles of older, fair skinned individuals?
Stucco keratoses
What is the Tx for actinic keratosis?
cryotherapy or keratolytic creams or biopsy
What are acrochordons?
-Fleshy papules arising in axillae, neck, groin, and eyelids, often pedunculated
Skin tags (acrochordons) can be a marker for?
insulin resistance and atherosclerosis
What are cherry angiomas caused by?
abnormal proliferation of blood vessels coming to the surface of the skin
What is the name of a vascular lesion of the skin secondary to minimal skin trauma?
pyogenic granuloma
A positive Fitzpatrick Dimple test is indicative of a…?
Dermatofibroma
What is the treatment of choice of keloids?
intralesional steroids (excision alone is a bad idea)
What are lipomas and what is the Tx?
- collection of fat under the skin
- Tx: surgical and completely elective
