Benign GB Flashcards
What is normal GB wall thickness?
Less than 3mm
What are GB adenomas? Another name for them?
Symptoms? U/S appearance?
AKA adenomatous polyps
True neoplasms- pedunculated (has a stalk). Less than 10mm (more than 1cm = malignancy).
U/S- hyperechoic, homogeneous, hypovascular.
What mimics GB adenomas?
Cholesterolosis- not an actual neoplastic growth
What is cholesterolosis?
What does it mimic?
Accumulation of cholesterol in the GB wall.
Mimics adenoma.
What are the two forms of cholesterolosis?
Cholesterosis and cholesterol polyps.
What is another name for cholesterosis? What does it look like on U/S?
Strawberry GB.
Multiple non-shadowing masses fixed to the GB wall.
What do cholesterol polyps look like on U/S?
Identical to adenomas (cannot be differentiated with U/S).
-look like a focal form
Are polyps or adenomas more common?
Polyps are more common (65%) than adenomas (5%).
What is adenomyomatosis?
Exaggeration of RA (Rokitansky Aschoff) sinuses.
Smooth muscle proliferation- thickening.
Is adenomyomatosis focal or diffuse?
What does it look like on U/S?
It can be focal or diffuse.
On U/S- hyperechoic focus in the wall. Comet tail artifact.
What part of GB is adenomyomatosis usually found?
Most commonly at fundus. Less commonly at mid portion (creating an hour glass GB).
What are adenomyomas?
Mass-like focal area of adenomyomatosis.
