What is gynaecomastia?
ductal growth in male without lobular development
Name some causes of gynaecomastia.
hormones, cannabis, liver disease
What is the presentation of fibrocystic change
smooth, discrete lumps, sudden pain and cyclical lumpiness
Who does fibrocystic change occur in?
women aged 20-50 (mainly 40+)
often resolves after menopause
Pathology of fibrocystic change?
thin walled cysts, which are blue and domed with pale fluid. Usually multiple
What is a hamartoma?
a lesion in the breast made up of normal breast cells but in an abnormal proportion/distribution
Who is fibroadenoma common in?
African women in 20s
In which non-neoplasm does “breast mouse” occur?
fibroadenoma
What are fibroadenomas like on ultrasound?
solid and rubbery
What occurs in sclerosing adenosis?
pain, tenderness and lumpiness, thickening. may be asymptomatic
Does sclerosing adenosis increase risk of cancer?
no
What is a radial scar?
common finding, stellate architecture, mimics carcinoma
What may cause fat necrosis?
local trauma by seat belt injury
warfarin
How does duct ectasia present?
pain and may be bloody/fistulation
affects sub areolar ducts
